hello.

I'm Sarah Sawyer...

I’m a dreamer, writer, and lover of fantastic stories. As long as I can remember, reading and story-weaving have been part of my life. When I was a child, my dad read The Chronicles of Narnia and The Hobbit to me, both excellent introductions to the world of fantasy. From there, I was hooked on speculative fiction!

Though I read and enjoy many genres, fantasy remains my favorite. I love journeying to wondrous worlds others have invented, and of course, crafting my own and exploring them alongside my characters. I believe we were made in the image of the Creator, and it’s a delight to engage in the process of sub-creation with Him.

I’ve been a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) for many years and served in a number of volunteer roles: area coordinator, category coordinator for the Genesis Contest, and judge for the Carol Awards.

One of my recent manuscripts, Healer’s Quest, an epic fantasy novel, finaled in ACFW’s 2019 Genesis Contest and won OCW’s 2020 Cascade Awards in the speculative fiction category. I’m now hard at work on a new gaslamp fantasy series that I’m quite excited about!

My husband and I live in Virginia with our three daughters. In this season, writing fits in between all the myriad joys, challenges, and adventures of mothering little ones—and my stories have become all the richer for it.

If you want to find me elsewhere...

I participate in the group blog Lands Uncharted, along with a number of fabulous fantasy writers. We share book reviews, story snippets, and more, so feel free to stop by if you’re looking for some clean fantasy recommendations.

If you’re interested in exploring matters of faith, you can check out my devotional writings at Living in Hope

And finally, if you would like to learn a bit more about me, you can check out an interview at The Writer’s Lair.

In the pages of my books, you’ll encounter transformative hope, redemptive love, and heroes who never give up. My life has been impacted by stories such as these, and I hope to take you on similar journeys—into worlds of wonder where darkness and suffering remain pierced with light and the shining beauty of redemption.

None of my books are available for purchase yet (hopefully in the upcoming year or so), but if you want to be notified when they release, please sign up for my newsletter.

It begins with the smallest experience. A star-studded night sky, resplendent with glory. A melody, haunting in loveliness. A child’s laughter. A sunrise. And something grips your soul with yearning beyond comprehension, the certainty that a world greater and more beautiful lies just beyond the reach of your perception. In that moment, you catch a glimpse of the numinous, the wonders of eternity distilled into a single soul-stirring encounter.

On the pages of fantasy, these echoes of the numinous resound. They pull back the veil of time and space and the constraints of our world to reveal the greater reality that underpins it, and one we’re privileged to explore. Inspiration is everywhere!

If this were a comprehensive listing of favorite authors, it would take pages and span many genres, so I’ll limit it to fantasy alone. Of course, like many, I’ve always loved C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, and George MacDonald. But I also appreciate many current writers, including  Andrew Peterson, W.R. Gingell, Patrick Carr, N.D. Wilson, and Brandon Sanderson.
