A Sneak Peek into The Hobbit Movie

Christian Fantasy

On the whole, I prefer engaging with story through the written word, rather than film. Because of that, I usually skip past the “behind the scenes” segments on DVDs, and I almost ignored the video blog on the production of The Hobbit. However, due my interest in the story and the inordinate number of people recommending the clip on Facebook, I gave in and watched this mini documentary by Peter Jackson, which gives an insider view into the first stages of filming The Hobbit.

Apparently, he plans to video blog throughout the entire two or three year production period, and I have to say, he makes the creative process of filming a movie intriguing. It piqued my interest in the coming film as well, which Iā€™m sure was the desired effect.

Did you enjoy taking a glimpse behind the scenes? What do you think of video blogging the filming process?

I saw this the other day and posted it on my facebook as well! I have been waiting for this movie to be made for 10 years!!!! I can’t wait for it to come out! I get SO emotional just thinking about it. The Hobbit was the first book I ever read for fun, it introduced me to the world of fantasy and the love for it that I have now. The Hobbit was the reason that I got into The Lord of The Rings and read those as well. Besides the Bible, my favorite book is hands down The Hobbit for that reason. I love the story and the world that Tolkien created! I am also so very happy that now Peter Jackson is the one who is directing it as well as script writing. I know that in his hands The Hobbit can be trusted to translate it to motion picture. I wish I could also say that about others but the reality is I have not seen anyone that can make a fantasy movie like Jackson. I also wish I could say this about Walden Media in regards to the Narnia books because of my love for it and C.S. Lewis, but unfortunately I continue to be more and more disappointed with Walden Media. This is another reason why I SO look forward to The Hobbit, it’s because I know based on The Lord of The Rings movies it will be AMAZING!!!! I can’t wait to get my ticket for OPENING DAY OF THE HOBBIT!!!

I can imagine your excitement with an all-time favorite coming to the screen! I look forward to discussing the film with you when it comes out (though 2-3 years is a while to wait).

It’s interesting–either Tolkien or Lewis (or both) sparked a love for fantasy in most people I know. In my case, it started when my dad read me The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a young child…but The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings came soon after. They all shaped my imagination and my passion for the genre.

I found the process fascinating as well. It gave me a clearer perspective of what goes into a film-making project, and the passion for it that propels actors, directors, etc. There’s a lot of creative energy in one place!

Anticipation definitely seems to be building among Tolkien fans, and I’m eager to see what they end up doing with the story. šŸ™‚
