Book Giveaway: Monster in the Hollows by Andrew Peterson

With the onset of summer, there’s a increase of critters venturing out of the woods and fields to pay call in yards and gardens (especially gardens) all around. Fortunately, we have no monsters in our particular locale, but in the world of Aerwiar, matters are different. They’ve got a real monster skulking in the hollows, and Andrew Peterson presents the story in a vivid, entertaining fashion. A few weeks ago, I did a full review of Monster in the Hollows, and now I want to share this story with other readers, so I’m holding a giveaway.

Book description:

Janner Wingfeather’s father was the High King of Anniera. But his father is gone. The kingdom has fallen. The royal family is on the run, and the Fang armies of Gnag the Nameless are close behind.

Janner and his family hope to find refuge in the last safe place in the world: the Green Hollows–a land of warriors feared even by Fangs of Dang. But there’s a big problem. Janner’s little brother-heir to the throne of Anniera-has grown a tail. And gray fur. Not to mention two pointed ears and long, dangerous fangs. To the suspicious folk of the Green Hollows he looks like a monster.

But Janner knows better. His brother isn’t as scary as he looks. He’s perfectly harmless.

Or is he?

Join the Wingfeathers on an adventure filled with mystery, betrayal, and sneakery in a land of tasty fruits. There’s a monster on the loose and the truth lurks in the shadows.

Sample of the first page:

It wasn’t a sound that woke Janner Igiby. It was a silence.

Something was wrong.

He strained into a sitting position, wincing at the pain in his neck, shoulders, and thighs. Every time he moved, he was reminded of the claws and teeth that had caused these wounds.

He expected to see the bearer of those claws and teeth asleep in the bunk beside him, but his brother was gone. Sunlight fell through the porthole and slid to and fro across the empty mattress like a pendulum, keeping time with the rocking of the boat. The other bunk’s bedclothes were in a heap on the floor, which was typical; Kalmar never made his bed back in Glipwood, either. What wasn’t typical was his absence.

If Monster in the Hollows sounds like something you would enjoy reading, I invite you to enter the contest. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post (and make sure the email address you put in the email field is valid, so I have a way to contact you if you win).

The giveaway will remain open for two weeks (until 11:59PM EST,  July 11th), and then I will randomly select a name and contact the winner by email. If I don’t get a response to the winning notification email within seven days, a new winner will be selected.

  2. Awesome giveaway! I have the first book for my little brother — proofread it and it was quite a hilarious book. (Right up his alley)

Oh my goodness! I read the first one of these and LOVED it; I haven’t been able to get a hold of the second one yet thanks to my Library, but it’s coming. Peet the Sock Man? is an official favorite character. (the book earned high bonus points for making me laugh several times!!)

ooh this would be simply amazing!!! I’ve been wanting to get the book, and actually ordered it from amazon, and then they e-mailed me that they are out 🙁 I’ve been waiting a long time for Andrew Peterson’s 3rd book to come out, and I just can’t wait! 🙂 Thanks for having the contest!

Sounds like an interesting book. I haven’t read any of the previous installments, but jumping in at this point doesn’t sound all together bad, as the premise is already enticingly entertaining.

OOOOHHHH, thank you, this is so awesome! My 3 princesses & I have been patiently awaiting book 3 of the adventure, ever since they announced last year it would be released sometime in the spring. I had picked up DSOD on a whim, after hearing an interview w/ Mr Peterson on radio, the weekend after we found out we’d be facing divorce. My girls have gotten alot of comfort from it, not just as a routine for visitation time, but as they also each identified with one of the three children being ripped from their family, battling lots of tough situations and showing they are warriors inside, and the comforting of memories/stories of their father. We picked up NOBE the first day it was out at FC store, and now their step-sister-to-be has really gotten into it too, we all are on pins & needles to continue the tradition around summer campfires curled up with MITH!!!
