Christian Fantasy News and Releases, December 2010

Publishing seems to flow in cycles, and to the best of my awareness, there’s not much releasing this month–at least in terms of Christian speculative fiction. But there are several news items that may be of interest, and I also want to take the opportunity to mention a Christian fantasy story for children, written by two lovely people: Donita K Paul and Evangeline Denmark.

The Dragon and the Turtle

Friends come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Sometimes they’re even dragons.

Roger loves adventure. Today he’s playing pirate, sailing the high seas, dancing to the hornpipe, and catching fish. But the wind’s blown him off course and he’s . . . well . . . lost.

When Padraig, a kitten-sized, bug-eating dragon, encounters the lost turtle, he offers to help Roger find his way home. Roger’s directions take some time to follow—his house looks brown, sounds like singing, smells like baking, feels like sand, and tastes like strawberries—and along the way, Roger and Padraig become friends. And friendship always yields unexpected rewards. Like cookies.

If you have children, young siblings, or neices/nephews, this would make an excellent Christmas gift.

  1. Thanks for mentioning The Dragon and the Turtle! For more fun with Roger and Padraig, check out their website dragonandturtle.com

Also, look for The Dragon and the Turtle Go On Safari, coming January, 2011.

You’re welcome, Evangeline! I’m glad you shared the additional information and look forward to seeing The Dragon and the Turtle Go On Safari. 🙂

  2. The picture book sounds adorable! Wouldn’t you love a kitten-sized dragon? 🙂

Thanks for spreading the news about the HW contest! I’m one of the judges… show us your best! 😀

    • Sarah Sawyer says:

      A pet dragon? Absolutely! 🙂

And I’m all about spreading any Christian Speculative fiction news that reaches my ears. I hope you get some excellent entries!

  3. We were very blessed by finding just the right artist. Vincent has illustrated numberous picture books and has worked on the animation for movies: Horton Hears a Who, Robots, Ice Age 3.
His characters have the most engaging expressions. I want a Roger and Padraig for our house. I think we might get the turtle. The kitten-sized dragon might be hard to find.

    • Sarah Sawyer says:

The illustrations are beautiful! A nice compliment to your writing.

And if you find a kitten-sized dragon, you’ll have to let me know. 🙂

Oh, yes, I’d take one of those as a pet!

And you’re welcome! I hope you get fantastic entries (though that might make your job a little more challenging). 🙂
